I would like to see the Mint do one with a Morgan Reverse and "CC" mint mark. maybe also do "'C" and "D" mint mark with the Liberty Gold reverse. I know it's asking to much
I’d make a bet that it’s against the law for the Mint to use a mark from a place where it no longer has a mint.
What do they want to rename it to? Manbonnettan? True academia is still synonymous with free thinking. It is corporate controlled and sponsored universities which are not.
Older collectors like myself remember the days when there was no such thing as an ASE. It was never even contemplated when I began collecting in 1969. Perhaps opinions are changing but, when the first American silver eagles were issued in 1986, I was very happy to make the purchase and I still look forward to it every year. I have each proof, except the 1995W and, of course, no proofs were issued in 2009 to much disappointment. It is quite a collection to have and look at. If you look at the 35-year mintage figures overall, the coin is extremely popular and a smashing success.
A lot of people criticize the Royal Canadian Mint, and they do produce a lot of ridiculous stuff, but they also have some really nice coins. I love their animal coins and I'm disappointed that the U.S. doesn't do anything with animals on it (besides the eagle of course). We have so many iconic species and all we ever put on our coins are people and buildings. I'd pay a premium for silver U.S. coins with a grizzly bear or wolf or cougar.
Where would this "true academia" exist? My career was in academic publishing so I have seen it all, sir. In the early Eighties I was, in fact, thrown out of a computer department in a small regional state university because I had a small Apple Computer pin on my lapel. Upon seeing my pin, the offended instructor conjectured that I must be one of those sorts who sees these things as a means of playing games. With my hand on the doorknob, I turned to this intellectual giant and said, that for every game that existed for an Apple computer, there were at least a hundred for the PC; that's because the Apple consortium held higher programming standards. These crazies are everywhere. The representative I saw was opposed to anything with man in it... even woman is offensive to these types. Some of the institutions mentioned — excluding the obvious ones, of course — include Purdue, U of Illinois in Carbondale, Howard County CC, U of Mo and Iowa State. As the man who originally hired me into my publishing career said to me, "True academics are dead... most people are just there to draw a paycheck then go home. Many don't even keep their office hours. You'll find this out soon enough." That was almost 50 years ago.
Did I say it still exists? It was my roundabout way of say that it doesn't. I should know: I've been in it for over 40 years.
Well it is getting kind of old, as I said before it's been on the ASE longer than it was on the walking liberty half dollar.
