I am trying to decide where to expand my collection next year. You guys are really pushing seateds up the list!
Thanks, but I'm not sure what you mean by this. I'm only aware of the drapery/no drapery varieties for the 1839. I didn't know there were different reverse varieties. Can you explain the differences between each? THANKS!!
On seated dimes and half dimes you'll see in looking up varieties some had smaller lettering on the reverse . Dates also come in larger date and small. As well as in half dimes large 5 C . and small 5 c. Mint marks also can be a large O or a small o on some coins. Those of us whom get into die marriages and such use all these items to determine what obv. Was used with what rev. Some dates there's only one or two, other dates there maybe quite a few. So you may collect a series by date others collect by date and die marriages variety . Google Bust half dime die marriages . There are 123 different pairs,of a series of 1829-1837. This also determine the R Factor as some are very common other not. I also almost forgot LG *'s and small *'s.
How's this for a Cherry Pick? Best of all $17.00 picked off the Bay Guessing Grade an VG-8/10 ? I-5 L-5 URS-8 R-4
Well with the scratch it won't grade..... but still I'm thinking worth 4/5 times more than paid. Plus it's a neat ddo!
Thanks Paddy, I collect Bust Halves by die marriages, so I'm aware of this part of the hobby. But I've only heard of the 2 different obverses for the 1839. I didn't know there was any significant differences in the reverse dies though. I was wondering how Jello identified mine as a small letter reverse as compared to any others that may be out there. PS- Nice cherry pick!
Well none of these are mine, but I did take all the pictures. Photographing this collection makes me want to only focus on seated coinage instead of the type set I was doing... tough choice!
Why I knew 1839 & 1840 sets I've been hunting for the large letter reverse. Now going on 28-40 years that I could afford. One I've seen cost to much. K land more are in higher grades.
