Was there any reason to resurrect a more than a year old thread just to point out the obvious? The dollar coins don't circulate. Regardless of whatever justifications that they should, the vast majority of the public is indifferent to them and prefer $1 bills to $1 coins. This will always be the case as long as they have a choice; the only way to change the situation is to forcefully discontinue $1 bills. The prevailing political will is against that, and likely will continue to be so in the forseeable future. It doesn't matter what you put on a dollar coin, it's not going to circulate as long as people have a choice in the matter. Let's not belabor the obvious, OK? Having said that, I think getting rid of the $1 bill makes sense and would prefer to use $1 coins rather than $1 bills. But I'm obviously in the minority in that regard. I actually like the presidential coins... I'm collecting one of each in proof and business strike, and think they are a great mnemonic device to remember presidential history. But I hold no illusions that the series serves any purpose other than for something for coin collectors to collect... it will never be a practically circulating coin; and not all coin collectors are going to want to collect it (everyone has their individual preferences after all, and you can't collect everything even if you wanted to.) P.S. A lot of people argue about "In God We Trust" in some way or another... I'm sure it's a hot-button issue for some but I think the majority likely doesn't care one way or the other. Like I heard a radio talk show host say once, "I wouldn't care if my money said 'Screw You' on it, as long as I can still spend it."
