I thought sure you were about ready to close my thread. I would like to keep it open a little longer for folks to read. there is some important information for new collectors that wants to learn in it. I finally figured out my unusal coin after I gave in and started to believe ICG's opinion about MAJOR DIE CLASH then started to check for this and sure enough they had it labeled correctly. what threw me off is this is the first time I have ever seen a die clash this severe and thought for sure I had one of the extremely rare dropped die filling coins like I collect. this was partially my fault for the confusion and I'm sorry I did it. maybe it helped someone in the long run hopefully. This shows that we need to be more careful about pulling the trigger too fast on a unusal coin and so many bad calls would not be made. If this thing starts to get out of hand again just go ahead and close it up anyway.
Not to beat a dead horse here, but how the heck are you going to get a die clash on the deepest parts of the die?
Doubt it. There is like 1-2 mm of empty space between these features on the dies. The strike would have to completely destroy the higher fields around it and still have enough steam to make a strong impression. It's like cupping your hands and clapping, the deeper parts don't touch.
If I had a boss who told me to keep thinking about things for it to come to me instead of showing or telling me (in some way actually conveying information about his ideas or thoughts from one person to another) I would have to quit and get a different job with a different boss. If I had a teacher who came up with that line and told me to keep thinking on something that I didn't understand or disagreed with, I would have to drop the class and teacher and go to a different class and teacher. If I had a mentor who did that, I would have to find a different mentor. In other words, I see no reason or sensibility to tell someone who has pointed out certain things and told a person certain things to get a line like "just think on it and it will come" instead of addressing the concerns or differences pointed out. It just isn't productive to expect someone to get what you believe or see based on some sort of thinking kind of osmosis. The coin does not show a die clash, IMO, based on facts surrounding the appearance of the coin. Instead it has the hallmarks of a hammer job. No amount of being told by someone who doesn't seem to want to address those concrete issues to "just think on it and it will come" will get that problem resolved IMO. The OP has the right to believe what he wants to believe, but when faced with evidence that the coin doesn't conform to that belief, and the OP still wants to believe, at least give facts instead of platitudes or deflecting offers based on it not being as much on your terms as you want or not what you want.
It doesn't happen too often anymore but the way a die "warps" other than by breaking is from improper hardening which allows the die face to SINK moving the details even FURTHER away from the die face they are supposed to have clashed with. Also if the die is soft enough to be sinking it probably wouldn't be hard enough to create a strong clash it the other hardened die.
I sure have ignored a lot of harassment on this thread and overlooked many things because I'm a real grown up. every word I have written on here is the truth and anyone that has a tiny bit of knowledge about error and variety coins will tell that I have wrote nothing but the truth. I did make one mistake because this coin is so unusual and thought ICG had it labeled wrong and have already admitted that.all I got from it was snotty replys like I don't believe you and even been flat out called a liar. for the few of you that is doing this you do not deserve to be able to read the information I have already gave out. I would love for some of you to try this on Mike Diamond and see how far you could push him,I'm betting not very far. I'm tired of bring pushed around and I would give you some more good information that would help folks that want to learn but I don't see anyone that appears to be interested here.
rascal, it was refreshing reading your post and feeling how palpable your passion for (error) coins after, I assume, many years. It's either because of the holidays or some kind of divine error coin intervention that just yesterday I looked at a coin I had forgotten about. It's a 1945-S Merc dime with most of the T in LIBERTY missing. It's yours for the price of a S.A.S.E. While I've been reading posts here at CoinTalk for a while, this is my first (or 2nd) post so I am not familiar with the protocol. Message me for my info if you want this defecto-dime. And Happy Holidays!!! Terri
Well, when nothing changes, nothing changes. It's OK if you want to retain your opinion, I have no hard feelings to you or anyone about having your own opinion; but accusing everyone of harrassing you and bullying you on the posts in response to a post that has no harrassment in it isn't exactly accurate. Unless it's harrassment to discuss the causes and consequences of warped dies, hammered coins, and whether a die clash can put an incuse portion of a die into a coin. There's been a coin discussed, and people have put in their opinions on the coin. As I said before, you have the right to have your own opinion. The only result seems to be that your opinion and the others is that they are diametrically opposed and there is no backing down. Education on this seems to be out the window. So, I'll be back to just reading this post, as IMO it will continue to no avail until a mod gets in here and locks it out. Oh, well.
I've read this entire thread. Your first, and unfortunately NOT LAST post has been nasty and insulting to this man who seems to enjoy sharing something he feels very passionate about, despite the negative and mean comments from people that lack ANY passion in their lives, except an excessive amount of pettiness.
Hi DJsMom and welcome to CT. Before you take sides or defend anyone you should read all of the posts on all of the threads started by Rascal, then form your opinion.
this is for the moderators I'm having trouble getting back on CT , Did you suspend my account for some reason or is it that the website may be experiencing problems. I hope no one got mad at me over what the other folks were doing to me. please PM me and let me know if there is a problem ? I really enjoy your CT forum and hopefully the folks that are causing other folks problems will start to learn about coins then they can know what they are trying to say.
I posted thru a link im my email box but I now do think you are right. I found out the problem so mods. no need to give me the info. I requested. I was trying to open a new thread on here that concerned me and my friend and the moderators must have shut it down. thank you moderators , good work and I'm proud of which ever one did this for me.
