    I fully agree, it shouldn't happen, but it does. Sad thing is the market grading that is being used. Put's more into the eye appeal, and luster than planchet flaws and contact. I think that they missed on every aspect of the grade except the luster on this one.

    Thanks to this thread, I now know that "planchet roughness" is a thing that can exist on high-grade coins, and I have some idea of where to look for it. Thanks for the examples!

    The answer is in “CAC language” the MS-68 with planchet issues is a “C coin” and a firm pass.

    Agreed, no way would that coin reside in my collection.
