The quiet disappearance of the cent - w/o government action

This is a little off topic, but I noticed that the person ahead of me paid for her lottery ticket with a $2 bill. So, I asked the cashier if I could have it. No problem! She then commented that the woman always pays for her lottery tickets with $2 bills and couldn't figure out where she gets them. I told her that she probably gets them at the nearby dog track. The cashier looked puzzled until I told her that all wagers at dog tracks and horse tracks are based on a $2 bet.

I have a friend who "manages" a strip club, and they give patrons $2 notes instead of $1 notes to "drop on stage". Yeah sure, drop.
