I really like the new portrait they have on the Canadian coins now. Only question is, how come she is shown not wearing a crown?
Unless there is something new for 2014, the current portrait has been used for about 10 years now. Why no crown? I don't know. George VI didn't have one either.
Well, she has been ruling for over 60 years ... during her reign she has had multiple portraits => some crowned, some laureate and this new version seems to have no head-gear whatsoever https://www.google.ca/search?q=quee...NLcWkyAGX2YDwAQ&ved=0CCsQsAQ&biw=1280&bih=812
I didn't like the last portrait before this. She looked to "stern" and her neck looked to long. She looks better in the new one, and almost looks happy.
speaking of queens heads... queen Beatrix topographical map head. this coin said buy me...so I did about 5 years ago.
Hmm, while Queen Elizabeth will - unlike the Dutch queen and the Belgian king - not step back, Charles is more likely to be King George VII. What I like about the Canadian portraits is that they picked one (by Susanna Blunt) which can only be found on coins from Canada. Christian
The current Dutch king Willem Alexander uses a similar effect on "his" circulation coins. This is the 20 cent piece for example: He is not depicted with a crown either, by the way. In the case of the Canadian portrait, here is some info: http://www.mint.ca/store/mint/learn/faces-of-the-monarch-1100026 Christian
