Very good thread. If the British empire wasn't so hard to collect I would Definately also collect this one. I've got a soft spot for Portugal, I love it ! I want to visit Azores next year as we have been to the mainland x2 and Madeira.
Portugal 10 Escudos 1954 genuine and counterfeit: I have had these Portugal silver 1954 10 Escudos coins since the 1960's so the counterfeit is not from the usual source but was probably locally produced. Portuguese "Empire" numismatics is certainly a challenge with a similar degree of difficulty as the British Empire one (my opinion). And yes, very nice place to visit. From north to south and including the islands of Madeira and Azores.
PORTUGAL (1521-57) GOLD CRUZADO CALVARIO KING JOHN III On the eve of his death in 1557, the Portuguese empire had a global dimension and spanned almost 1 billion acres (about 4 million square kilometers). During his reign, the Portuguese became the first Europeans to make contact with both China, under the Ming Dynasty, and Japan, during the Muromachi period. He abandoned Muslim territories in North Africa in favor of trade with India and investment in Brazil. In Europe, he improved relations with the Baltic region and the Rhineland, hoping that this would bolster Portuguese trade. www.space4coins.com
