The thread has been a little dormant, but here it is my last acquisition:

2 Tangas 1645 issued in Bacaim and Chaul

    India-Portuguese BACAIM & CHAUL 2 Tangas completa.jpg
Although in Portuguese and international catalogs it is considered that it was issued in Bacaim and Chaul (both forts near Bombay), there are people that believe that it was issued in Barcelor and Onor (both forts near Goa), which makes sense after all, as the inscriptions are B and O.

I was surprised to hear that 99% of the people in Brazil speak Portuguese; it is a beautiful language with beautiful people. I enjoyed my 2-week stay. Albeit, I was on a military exercise with the Brazilian Army but we did have some down time and I got to enjoy the nightlife for a bit. What I remember the most is all the vegetation and mountains. The humidity was atrocious; but manageable. I look forward to going back one day.

IMG_4759.JPG IMG_4760.JPG IMG_4761.JPG One of my favourite designs , from coin facts wiki,
This type was struck in Lisbon in 1910 to commemorate the centennial of the Peninsula War wherein Portuguese and British troops drove out the French. King Carlos ruled from 1889 until his assassination at the hands of an anarchist in 1908. His son Manuel II, shown here, ruled for only two years before he was deposed and the Republic established. This 1000 réis piece was commonly called a coroa. The last silver coroa was issued in 1916.

    Recorded mintage: 200,000.

Specification: 25 g, .917 fine silver, .736 troy oz ASW, designed by Valancio Alves.

    Catalog reference: KM 558, Dav-268.
