In Thracian coin hoards Twins of Dioscuri, Prow, Tripod and Eagle on Thunderbolt Athens New Styles are found in proportionately high numbers compared to other New Styles in such hoards. Francoise De Callatay and Andrew Meadows categorise them as "over represented" types. They all come from a tight consecutive ordering of middle period New Styles in the 120's BC as ordered by Meadows in the Thasos/New Style hoard 1996 (CH 9). Why so we don't know but it is reasoned that the Romans , called on Athens to pay Thracian mercenaries-or else? These coins are found in the Balkans well worn that means they circulated a lot before being buried.

c 126/5 BC Eagle on Thunderbolt

c 125/4 Tripod

c 124/3 Prow

c 123/2 Twins of Dioscuri

Athens New Style Tetradrachm c 126/5 BC

Obs : Athena Parthenos right in tri-form helmet

16.65gm 32mm Thompson issue 39

Thompson catalogue Obs 450 : Rev b (not in plates)

Rev : ΑΘΕ ethnic

Owl standing on overturned panathenaic amphora

on which month mark Ε control ΗΡ below

3 magistrates : EPIGENE SOSANDROS ELIODO

LF symbol : Eagle on Thunderbolt

All within a surrounding olive wreath

Athens New Style Tetradrachm c 125/4 BC

Obs : Athena Parthenos right in tri-form helmet

29mm 16.67g Thompson issue 40

Thompson catalogue : 470f

Rev : ΑΘΕ ethnic

Owl standing on overturned panathenaic amphora on

which month mark Θ control ΜΕ below

3 magistrates : POLEMON ALKETES ARIS

LF symbol : Tripod

All within a surrounding olive wreath

Athens New Style tetradrachm c 124/3 BC

Obs : Athena Parthenos in tri-form helmet

16.81g 30mm Thompson issue (new) 41

Thompson catalogue : 532

Rev : ΑΘΕ ethnic

Owl standing on overturned panathenaic amphora on

which month mark Ε control ΣΦ below

3 magistrates : KAPAIX EPGOKLE KLE

RF symbol : Prow of Ship

All within a surrounding olive wreath

Athens New Style tetradrachm c 123/2 BC

Obs : Athena Parthanos right in tri-form helmet

16.23g 30mm Thompson issue (new) 42

Thompson catalogue: 479g

REV : ΑΘΕ ethnic

Owl standing on overturned panathanaic amphora

on which month mark Δ control ΣΦ below

3 magistrates : MIKION EURYKLEI BOYKATTHES

RF symbol : Dioscuri

All surrounded by an olive wreath
