Does anyone buy proof sets from ebay? I'm not sure i would. Any thoughts on this? These are the sets you can open. Right?

Yes, many if the sets you see on eBay have been opened and even mixed and matched, and it’s perfectly ok to purchase these sets on eBay at a discount, but one should exercise caution when doing so and keep in mind that you need to be sure you get what you paid for.

Understand that many of the sets you’ll see on eBay are either left over pieces from other sets or sets that did not meet some sort of criteria and as such, may be inferior coins.

Verifying that your coins are actually silver is quite simple and requires nothing more than a sheet or two of toilet paper. Anyone can tell pretty easily, especially with Proof coins.

    Does that help?

Watch out for some crazier than normal toning with the new bullion dimes, quarters and halves.

I have bought several proof AND mint sets from eBay sellers. All arrived as advertised and/or as pictured in the various pages. There have been SOME sets that were advertised as mint sets that were really proof sets, so in instances where I wanted the mint set and already had the proof, I had to return them but had no trouble with this.
