So, there will be a new dollar coin program starting this year. Like the quarters, it will proceed for *fourteen years* with each state in order of entry into the US. You can read more about it here: https://coinweek.com/us-mint-news/united-states-mint-new-1-coin-program-honors-american-innovation/ So, let's play a little game: What innovation or innovator would you like to see honored for your state?
Henry Ford (carmaker) should probably be for Michigan. Wright Brothers - Ohio. @V. Kurt Bellman for Pennsylvania lol
The only possible reason people could ever need dollar coins. The Parking Meter Carl C. Magee invented the "coin controlled parking meter" in 1935. The first meter was installed in Oklahoma City and it charged 5 cents per hour. In the U.S. today, parking meters generate over 1.25 million dollars per day.
Us Minnesotans will probably expect a coin with a LOON (i.e. State Bird) on the Reverse: http://1037theloon.com/10-facts-about-the-minnesota-state-bird-the-loon/ and an image of BOB DYLAN on the Obverse: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/...xtensive-first-rolling-stone-interview-90618/ There are considerable numbers of us Loony residents here that can hardly be understood, who may appreciate the coins relativity: YA! YOU BETCHA! JMHO
Henry Ford was a huge anti Semite and should not be immortalized on a coin that no one will ever use.
As to the innovators........George Washington Carver, Samuel Colt (made all men equal), and Alexander Bell.
Bloody Devil........didn't read all of the OP thread before I pulled the trigger.......My state innovator........Robert Fulton.
Innovator with the oil rig theme would be Red Adair. Red Adair Paul Neal "Red" Adair was an American oil well firefighter. He became notable as an innovator in the highly specialized and hazardous profession of extinguishing and capping oil well blowouts, both land-based and offshore. I copy and pasted that from Wikipedia.
That was a good movie. I try to watch all the movies about Red. Red Adair's world headquarters was just right down the street from my house.
