May as well jump in as I don't want to disappoint anyone. Been doing a bit of "strap" searching as of late. It's like roll searching but involves currency for the uninformed. Had to do a bit of shopping today. Hit three stores. Left my house with $119 in cash. Nothing larger than a five. $85 in fives and $34 in ones. It was not a strain on my wallet, my back pocket or my back. Cashiers appreciated the smaller notes as it keeps them supplied with change for those that believe that larger denominations are the only way to go. I rarely have denominations larger than a $20 note with me. Usually tens or less and it is absolutely NOT a problem as I rarely tote around over $200. If I DO have more cash on hand it means I am making a larger purchase and at that point larger denominations are quite handy. Now for those that search dollar coins I ask you. If you find 5 coins worth keeping out of $119 do you just go out and shop with the remaining 114? Not saying I'd carry 114 singles around with me all day but I have done 50 notes on MANY occasions with no problem. Did it today if you think about it. Until they ger rid of the $1 note (and as a currency collector as well as a coin collector I hope they never do) the mint/government needs to stpop wasting the effort on $1 coins. To this day I have still NOT seen anything newer than a Sacagawea in circulation in my neck of the woods.
