nice nice coin, I did check my stuff and earliest are 1284-95 , Castilla-Leon mint Leon., but I do not have any from 1600-1700. congrats to you, but I'm very very very interested in mark. could you just try make a picture of them? special it's 2 marks, is second one is date or number? I could not see on photo.
Dang shoot, gotta love you guys. The ancients are magnificent and the World coins are phenominal, but.....the most perfect and favorite design that I enjoy? Augustus St. Gaudens design.....Allow me to illustrate.
I'm with Green18, the Saint Gaudens Double Eagle is, in my opinion, the most beautiful coin ever minted. Almost 1 full ounce of Gold, and the Bust of Liberty carrying a torch and a olive branch. They are just beautiful coins.
I guess beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but here are mine. CZECHOSLOVAKIA (REPUBLIC)~1 Dukat 1926 MOLDAVIA & WALLACHIA~2 Para/3 Kopek 1773 IONIAN ISLANDS (ZANTE)~50 Aspra 1966 CRETE/CANDIA (COLONIAL)~4 Soldi/60 Tornesi 1625-1629
I also love the US St Gauden double eagles. A beautiful coin. Another one I find to be striking is the British penney from the early 19th century. Fairly common, but still absolutely beautiful design.
Beautiful Coins jello: I LOVE that Danish Skilling you posted, absolutely beautiful. I always liked Danish coins, and hope to add some older ones like that to my collection one day. Siberian Man Great Spanish coins and very nice Swedish and Danish coins, I always loved the Denmark 2Kr issues of the 20th century that they did when one ruler died, the ones with the portrait, titles and dates of the previous ruler on one side, and the portrait and titles of the new ruler on the other whstler: that is a Beautiful Mexican Centenario, that has always been one of my favorite Mexican coin designs, and makes a good candidate for this thread. I will add some more of my collection to the mix, with some of my favorite modern World coins: First pic is my AU 58 Maundy 1d from 1800 of King George III. Second pic is of my 1839 1 1/2 pence, or threehalfpence of Queen Victoria, I absolutely love this coin... and it has prooflike devices which are extremely hard to capture on camera, especially through a coin flip. The third and fourth pics are of my favorite Spanish coin, a 2 reales from 1737, the photos were taken while it was in it's coin flip, so there is some glare. And the last photo is of an undated tiny little 1 Kreuzer from Frankfurt with a beautiful city view for such a small coin on the reverse, it was struck in 1839, and I had alot of trouble getting photos.... and these photos do not do this coin justice.
Spanish Jello: Cool, I look forward to seeing it. Ripley: that is a very cool coin. Siberian Man: I have a question about your Spanish 2 reales dated 1709. It says it is of Carolus III, but as I recall, he did not become King untill much later in the 18th century... 1759 - 1788 I believe, and he was not born untill 1716.... I have also seen other coins of similar design, also with early dates like yours that have the titles of Carolus III. Do you know why this is? I do not.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_iii_of_spain
