And for the record, I don’t like Morgans. They are overhyped and quite ugly from a design standpoint. So you can likely ignore my ratings in terms of market appeal. When you see the TPGs grade and regrade these coins and they end up in maxed out holders and in Legend auctions...the hype is just too much for me. Nothing against the collectors, just my opinions. These are pretty coins, but they are also eventually (if not already) going to be coins that someone is buried in.
My last word on the subject: I have, over the years, dealt with many sources in selling off a massive toner collection, and switching gears, collection-wise. As most know, I dealt with Shane Canup for selling off my ordinary toners (approximately 209 coins). This was before he had his problems with the law, and was reliable. They sold well. Thereafter, I sold the high end ones (about 220) through consignment and auctions. Jhon E. Cash (real name John Cybuski) sold a few of mine, as well as Great Collections, David Lawrence, etc.. I strongly suggest that you take a serious look at this page as a whole. These are celebrated high-end, high-spend toners, that should rate 5-6 on the monster scale. Some folks would prefer certain ones, some others. However, these coins are beyond reproach as major players in the Morgan game. Many of them are from multiple pedigree collections. At any rate, this is as good as Toned Morgans get, by anybody’s scale. Please do read and look at the page, for overall edification, as I feel we have strayed from our original intentions. End of sermon, and I won’t weigh in anymore. http://www.jhonecash.com/coins/tonedmorgans.asp
That is the website I linked to originally and it has a lot of good information. My intention was to follow that scale. However, it became more difficult with other coins (non-Morgans) and that is partially why I rebooted the thread ("Chapter 2") to focus more on our opinions as opposed to the scale. It will lead to some significant differences but it will also be interesting to see how people on here think (which will almost certainly differ than if we ran the same thread among only Morgan collectors or only Legend buyers or even on the PCGS forums). As far as the market is concerned, toned Morgans are just as hot now as I've seen since I started following them (around 5-6 years ago). I've witnessed some incredible prices realized (quite a few that shocked me and blew away my strong bids). I also noticed some irrational (at least to me) results. There have been so-so toners that have sold for strong money while better ones sit around or don't garner bids as high. It only takes 2-3 people to really like a particular toned Morgan and then anything can happen. In the same manner, if one person misses seeing an auction, the price can take a big hit. You know your toned Morgans well and I respect your thoughts (and always look forward to your comments). This thread is mainly for fun and isn't a reflection of the general market. I know we all tend to get confused/upset by some of the votes (it happened to me as well) but in the end please remember that what is posted on here (even if it gets heated) is just a small grouping of opinions and not the final say nor the reflection of the overall toner market.
After the video I would but my scores up to a 4.3 and 4.5. They definitely have more luster than I previously thought. My interpretation of the images was that they looked fairly matte.
Jhon E. Cash’s photos have been good, but being web based images, the reproduction is highly variable. I used several of his photos, as he sold some of my top toners, and he has been consistent with high end toners over the years.
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the coin side of Jhon E Cash website handled by Brandon Kelley (formerly of Anaconda Rare Coins)? I remember when Brandon partnered with him and redesigned the entire website. Jhon E Cash was always a currency dealer. Brandon added the coin side to his business and I always assumed that the coin content and coin photography was all credit to Brandon.
Let me repeat too, a score given here is in no way a personal attack of the poster. A coin having a particular pedigree to a collection or person doesn’t mean it is automatically a monster. For example, the Brent Pogue collection included low ball P01 absolutely ugly coins. They are not automatically worthy of collection because they have his PCGS vanity label. I like these Morgans. But, the way the toning lays on the coin’s surface of the design matters to me. I like soft toning transitions and toning that compliments the design of the coin. Vibrant colors alone are not enough for a monster vote for me. I’d happily own these nicely toned coins for reasonable money, but 100x toning premium is insane IMO. And I have seen that level, and just dropped my jaw. Again, to each their own.
Correct. Brandon and Jhon are partners. Brandon did all the photography. Jhon was a currency dealer back in 2010, but has dealt in coins as well. Jhon is the “money man,” so to speak. The business is under the egis of Jhon E Cash, as the name is an obvious attraction. I have dealt with both men.
For the record, @Morgandude11 : the “Moose” you posted on page 12 of this thread is likely one of the most beautiful toned coins I have ever seen. I gave it a 6 - all day every day! Some of these more subjective toning patterns are what are driving the highly variable scores, for sure.
The “Moose“ is incredible. It was a former Sunnywood, and Aurora Borealis pedigree. The sale on that one is an old sale. Moose has resold 3x since 2010. Its second resale was in Vegas for $26,000 at auction. It resold again in 2018 at a private auction, sealed-bid only for $93,550. I don’t know its status as of recent.
Ok I give the 2 end rolls 4.6 and 4.6 and as a pair 5.0 as the story is cool. I have a few to post when the floor is open just let me know
@ddddd : @Mainebill can go ahead of me. I need to take some images of my next coin to post, and that will probably be either tomorrow or Thursday when I get around to that.

Ok I couldn't get a nice image of this because my little set up is packed away from my move so here is a link to a video. 1881-S Morgan VIDEO: http://imgur.com/a/qoFUYFO Here is a still from the video but please check out the video. Fire away at this one, you guys won't offend me! Lol
I did watch the video and then compared it to the new chart posted by @LuxUnit. I would give this a 2.7
