I’m not a big fan of textile toners. So while that coin may garner monster money, I’d rate it around a 4.6
5.7 Edit: really I should have gone higher. Technically this one's a monster in my books...not the ultimate monster, but a monster. If that's enough to make it a 6 as per the guidelines of the game, you can count me a 6.
I guess that means it is a 6. Darker version of “The Moose.” Its nickname is “Black Magic.” Sold it to Jhon E. Cash back in the sell-off. It was a 65 then, in a PCGS holder. It crossed & upgraded, evidently to 66*. Resold recently.
I guess I'm in the minority here. I love the left half of the coin - no marks on cheek and lovely green toning. The right half is "meh" to me. The area around "UNUM" ruins the coin for me as a monster. It looks to have that "textile toning" look - which is spotted and doesn't appeal to me. A green face isn't enough for me to call a coin a monster. <shrug>
Hey, your call. Nobody begrudges your opinion. Everyone’s opinion is equal here, and this is subjective to begin with. I have seen crescent toned Morgans, with only one corner, or at most half of the obverse called Monster. Crescent limited toning does nothing for me. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

I agree with you about that area and that is what kept me from going 6 (so I still like it more than you but agree with your point). Agreed. Now that we are going with mainly our own opinion, it will lead to some more variance between the high and low scores (and that is perfectly fine). As for your comments about what some call monster toners, that is what I've been seeing too much as well. That was part of what led me to starting the thread: to show that there are many very nice coins (3-5 level) but very few are true monsters.
2.8. I like the coin, but the toning to me is not attractive. The fade to black coloration detracts from the coin’s appearance, rather than adding to it. Raised it to 2.8 after considering further.
