I'm rather surprised Peter gave this "Featured Thread" status. I was gonna post it on FAQ, but I've always considered a homepage "Feature" to be the top trophy on CoinTalk and I'm not sure this deserved that. It's just a quirky little tip. Useful if no tools are handy, but not intended to replace the better known methods involving tools, really.

And no, @TIF, I did not make my own thread a Feature, nor did I nominate it. ;)

I never would. That would take all the joy out of it for me.

@dpoole! It took me sec to do a double-take after realizing I was seeing you over here instead of on CU! Groovy.

I see you've got a very healthy collection of Features, and deservedly so.

"Snake Cowboys" was a classic! :):hilarious:

Hmm, and here I thought all it took was handing it to my 'slabcracker' who, after a few mysterious noises in the basement, would return with freshly cracked coins. Of course, I might have 'splainin' to do about what I've been up to on the interwebs again...

Would like to third?fourth? the request for a video. In all seriousness I do believe the technique in my house involves a table saw of some sort...it would be nice to have a method not requiring machinery.

Agree about the video/gif. It would be fun to watch this being done.

LOL - I can see the posts now - "It did not work and I have to crawl underneath the deck to get my coin." :)

With this method how would you keep the rest of the coin from falling through the deck?

This thread makes me glad to have a mechanic shop. Vices (my personal weapon of choice for slab cracking), hammers, screwdrivers.... heck one of these days im gonna try my plasma cutter on a slab just for fun:watching:

Your Linesman looks like Channellock mine are Ideal plus very old and worn like me:rolleyes:
I have a screwdriver similar to that but I find if I slip it leaves a bigger hole in my finger.

Just SNAP it between the objects, CRACK it open, and POP it apart. Easy. And you don't even have to be an Elf...

Here's a GIF that approximates the 'bend and break' method - maybe it should be called the 'pedal to the metal' method - depress the slab/pedal until it breaks and frees the metal (coin) :D

    A couple of dumb questions:

    Why are you doing this?
