Hello collectors, I always have an urge to share interesting and funny Ebay listings when they come along with the community here at CT so instead of making one post that will be forgotten, I figured why not create a thread where you can post, as in the title, " interesting, funny, and just plain suspicious" listings. I have a feeling that this thread will die pretty shortly because the last thing on your minds is scouting for strange Ebay listings, but I thought Id give it a chance. This thread could also serve as a warning for some of the more deceptive-weird Ebay listings, so at least it has a good purpose. To start off, here is a listing that I found today: http://cgi.ebay.com/Error-Coin-/280651185640?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item41581d3de8 I hope you all enjoy this thread if it's able to kick off! -5dollaredunote
I agree with you that the "powers that be" should designate a special thread pinned to the top for things like this. They should also have a similar thread pinned to the top for the posters who come here for the first time with.......... "I found this penny missing a number (or a letter). Is this an error and is it worth anything?" It seems like we get these posted quite often. Chris
He doesn't sound like a collector (nickel around the rim? looks like zinc to me). That is funny though. I figure I'll just do the Buy it Now. I don't want to wait the 5 days until its over.
This kind of stuff just annoys me, people trying to blow up my eBay listing! LOL>.. That was a joke. I can't believe that this guy doesn't realize that the 1 cent piece is copper coated zinc.
And if we did you'd have 20 pages of pinned sticky threads to scroll through before you ever got to something you actually wanted to read
The good thing about his ad is the price. It's high enough that the fools in the world probably have been separated from their money already, and can't afford this purchase. And those who can afford it, are smart enough to know better or have financial advisers to prevent them from buying it.
That clown had been putting a spam link for an online casino in his descriptions every time, and I'd been reporting it every time. It's gone now, so I'm at a loss to explain his behavior. Here's one that's a bit more down to earth: 1 roll (20 coins) bicentennial half dollars!! "More than 10 available"... and for each ten-dollar roll, by my calculation, his net take after fees is $9.60. Maybe he's making out on postage, but at $3.00 for almost exactly 1/2 pound of coins, I'm not sure how. Dude, spend the things!
This is not the first time he's tried to sell it. He's had it up a number of times. No reduction in price, though.
my favorite are still the "unsearched" rolls of wheat pennies that happen to have a silver coin, indian head, etc... on the end. Esp when they have so many listings they cant keep 'em straight: http://cgi.ebay.com/Estate-Wheat-penny-roll-1914-1935-D-ends-/230602966807?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item35b1020717 check the title vs. the body and vs. the pic's - though, this is not the "unsearched" listing you usually see I still find it, and them, funny/sad.
No matter what question you ask him, his response is always "thank you for your interest in my coin".
Heres another one: http://cgi.ebay.com/1955-Double-Die...12?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3366616650 Bad pics, 23 feedback, and the coin looks suspicious.
