There are about 75 or so coins in the "small eagle" set 73-87 and about 120 coins in the "large eagle" set 91-16. All the mint mentioned above made coins at one time or another. I will try to scan and post a listing from a couple sources that will give mintages from each mint. It will be after the weekend before I can get to it though.
This link may help. It gives detailed mintages and valuations (in Euros) for the 2,3 and 5 mark coins of the German Reich. http://janbelger.de/__oneclick_uploads/2012/03/schoen-kleiner-deutscher-muenzkatalog-2011-klein.pdf It is in german, but the key info is self explanatory. I'll see if I can find similar data on the web for the 1 and 1/2 mark coins.
Well, there's no going back now. I finnaly located one, and purchased it. It is a small eagle, 1876 A(berlin) 1 Mark. I like the design of the large eagle better, but a collections gotta start somewhere, right? I'll probably get a picture taken monday or tuesday, but it's nothing spectacular by most standards. By the way, first darkside coin:thumb:
True, in the Deutsches Reich the "A" mintmark was indeed the most common one; Berlin made more than 50 percent of the coins. (Of course that does not apply to each and every denomination/year. ) In the Federal Republic of Germany that was and is quite different; Stuttgart is the biggest mint. Some basic information about post-1871 German coins can be found at www.coinfinder.de - but for the interesting stuff (mintages, prices, auction results, etc.) they want you to pay ... Christian
Forget monday or tuesday! I asked my mom if I could use her camera, and amazingly, her point and shoot digital camera had a macro mode, so I got some pics! enjoy
Yes, most coins from this country (Federal Republic of Germany) I have too, and that 50 Pfennig design (with the artist's wife as the model ) I like a lot. And I also have many from the GDR (German Democratic Rep., "East Germany"), including that Buchenwald commem. Unfortunately some GDR collector coins are quite pricy. As for the pre-1949 (Deutsches Reich) coinage, well, they are not my collecting focus, but there are several in my collection. Too bad that the commems from the Weimar years tend to be expensive.
