Gold in any shape, condition or size is always good......if the price was commensurate with the piece in hand. Yours definitely has some 'interesting' characteristics to it, without getting into the disparaging details. Which you seem to already know about.
I would think any gold coin from Charlotte Mint would be a good! Condition doesn't matter that much, only thing wrong is the edge. Looks good to me, I think I would be happy!
Yes, price paid is the key. It is harder to find Charlotte Mint coins in the better grades than Dahlonega Mint pieces.
Well, I will say is that in hand the coin looks better than pictures (as we ALWAYS say) - the main issue is with the rim damage that looks almost like a mount. Surfaces good however - I think the coin has been dipped and a bit yellower than I would have thought. The price not bad, and I got the previously posted 1854 S dollar at the same time...The hairlines from IMO mild cleaning also not so bad in hand. Overall I guess it is alright though..
These seldom are pretty. It’s a survivor. And they were used hard and often melted. Especially during the war and post 33
It isn’t that good, nor is it that bad and it’s gold so it’s certainly IS ugly. FIFY, I HATE that baby crap yellow color.
Lol. I love silver for coins. I love gold for jewelry. The gold coins I love I can’t afford. And just not a silver jewelry girl. Gold is good platinum is better
I haven’t thought of it in a while now, but this date was one of the coins I lost over a decade ago . . . An exceptional coin that I suspect has been melted to avoid being traced.
I’m quite sure it’s not, as it was one of more than two hundred scarce coins, not one of which has surfaced after 13 years. I fear they were all destroyed.
