Only problem is, there are a lot of better graders here than us. Which one of these "smart people" do we follow? That would be harder than just guessing at the grade, IMHO. lol

What we need is for someone to develop a little "online course" here at Coin Talk University (CTU) to teach us how to grade coins. One week could be Buffalo nickels, the next Lincoln Wheat cents, then Walking Liberty Halves, etc. Have pointers to help us determine what makes it AU55 vs. MS60, and so forth. I'd be ALL over that. Heck, maybe even get a number of contributor's to develop a chapter in their own areas of expertise, maybe some foreign coin sections, etc.

I don't think it's that easy. In my searching I saw ms64's with sharp detail and with wear...so who knows.
Guess it all comes down to what the person you paid the money to says it is...lol

Also comes down to determining a weak strike from wear. I think this one has more of a weak strike. But that is only my opinion.

my guess, took ALL available information into account, search thousands of similar coins with known assigned grades ... and in the end, i throw the dart at the board, and VOILA!!! it was my posted grade :D

ok i really didnt do all that :D

Lol, I'm not one of those smart ones, lol. I just use my knowledge that I know about coins, and my gut. :D I can name a few though that could be considered the smart ones, lol. :D That sounds like a good idea actually. Be neat. :thumb:

I think that if you are trying to grade a coin from a couple of thumbnails, then you should temper your opinion on your grading ability. Grading coins from photos can be deceiving, if not downright impossible at times. So much depends on the angles, lighting, resolution of the photo, etc., so, if you missed the boat, don't get down on yourself.

Mainly we are hoping that honesty will prevail, we all know right from wrong ,and karma seems to keep things in balance in the long run...
