It was good to meet you Amanda. I was with Doug out at the smoking area. You never know who will show up out there. Several of us meet there each year. We also talked at the hotel pool. You guys had some great coins on display. I really liked some of the patterns. Your table was really busy. I had to come by several times to be able to get a good look. Hope we get to say Hi at future shows.
Yeah, we were there. And I walked by again later. But you were busy, doing your job. No reason to be sorry, that's what you're supposed to do For the past couple of years several CT members have gathered outside on the patio during the show to share discussions and coins among ourselves. For me that's always the best part of the show. This year the stars weren't aligned just right and it didn't really happen, never managed to get more than 3 of us together at one time. Of course the dealers can't really join in on this because - they're busy doing their jobs. So it was a treat Amanda to spend what time you had with you, I enjoyed it and look forward to other opportunities. Maybe next year things will work out a little better. Especially if more of us share phone numbers so we can find each other.
Sure, I'm all for it. You can be the show promoter, rent the hall and pay for it, do all the advertising, print up all the announcements, etc etc etc. Sound like a plan ?
well, if we do it in florida, sure, i'll handle it. i have a location, and i am pretty sure all of the dealers who rotate through the 3 major coin shows on the 1st, 3rd and 4th sunday of each month would go if we did it on the 2nd sunday's weekend of the month. with a free location, i think charging the dealers a small fee would handle any of the other expenses. and this all off the top of my head when i just woke up with no coffee. but great attempt at being a debbie downer there GDJMSP. you managed to take a fun idea, that seems to have a pretty impressive response, and try to kill it with your usual chest puffing intelligence analysis.
I don't want to burst your bubble, but it will not work. Try posting this as a poll and I don't think you would get 25 members to say they would agree to attend. I don't mean "like to be there" I mean will be there. What type of show could you have for just 25 people? I'm not sure if there were 25 active CT members at FUN in Florida. Look at the time, effort and money behind that event. Then there is the cost involved to the individual to make that trip. At best you could plan a meet and greet at the next large national currency show. That would be more practical. This reminds me of an old Mickey Rooney - Judy Garland movie: Hey kids, let's put on a show. It's not meant to be a downer, just a reality check.
LOL ! You really don't get it do ya ? It was a joke. Do you have any idea what it cost to put on a coin show, even a small one ? It is hugely expensive. And even if you got lucky enough to get enough dealers to buy tables and just break even on your expenses, you still have to put up the money for everything in advance. And who exactly would do that ? Who exactly could do that ? That was the point I was trying to get across to you with my comments. (The owner of this forum still supports it (keeps it going) with money out of his own pocket.)
Even a "mere" meeting involving 25 Coin Talk members who get together at the same place and time* could be somewhat difficult. And then you may say that meeting for just a drink would be too time (and money) consuming. Guess what, that is also what the CT forums are for. While I do go to California (awfully hot and dry ) from time to time, chances of going to Florida (awfully hot and muggy ) are slim to none. Here however I can "meet" you guys all the time, hehe. If anybody plans to run into me, the World Money Fair next month would be a great occasion. Nah, wait, for Floridans that would be about 8,000 km one way ... Christian
