    Greg,

Loved the coin from the moment I looked at it. The points listed above are perfect as far as I am concerned. Regardless of what has been done to the coin - if anything - I would be proud to show that coin off in my collection. It is a beautiful coin with amazing detail. Collect what you like and learn along the way. Thanks for sharing your experience and for taking the comments with a level of maturity many people would not have managed.

    Best Regards

    Darryl

Great looking coin, I think it's a great buy at $400, if I had see it I probably would've tried to buy it too.

The fact that it is raw and at MS-60 money is fishy to me, when it looks like a possible 65. If keeping it I'd try to get it slabbed and see what happens.

I'm glad you had the coin evaluated and are happy with the results. I think it is a beautiful coin and one that anybody would be proud to own. I know it may have been altered...it's one of those coins that has questions. But, it is a very nice looking coin and it isn't an obvious doctored coin. I'm glad you are deciding to keep it (I probably would too) and I think it's a fine addition to your collection. Congrats!

Send it to PCGS and get a TrueView. Even if they bag it they will still TrueView it.

it is a very nice coin and i am glad it is real.many early coins are cleaned, but that one never needed to be judging by the details so if it was an idiot must have owned it in the past.i would grade it.it is to nice a coin to leave in limbo and regardless of the out come the result is still the same whether you know it for a fact or not.

It is a beautiful coin. I read most of both threads. I'm not sure if the coin was sent in for grading.
    I'd have it graded.

If you like it, keep it!
It's still a great looking coin regardless of what the TPG company's think.
Sometimes I think we put a little too much on what they think anyway.

    It´s a beautiful coin,

You have gone trough this process as best as you could. Weighed everyones oppinion and asked for seconds.

Your decision is the right one as you took it with ease and no haste.

    Again beautiful coin

Going to agree with OP.His questions were answered and he is happy with his purchase. The only time anyones opinion matters is if they were buying it from him.If there is an issues with it just don't buy it.

FYI: This is a post from ebay's reviews and guides from 2006:

Recently we have encountered counterfeit high grade 1857 Flying Eagle cents, Breen #1927, for auction on Ebay. There are several items that are important. The authentic coins have some marks that are missing on the fakes and, conversely, the fakes have some marks that should not be present.
    Marks That Should Be Present
    • There should be some file marks above the NI in United. These file marks will not be there on the fakes.
Marks That Should NOT Be Present
    • Counterfeits from spark erosion dies will have short, vertical lines between the 5 and 7.
    • Counterfeits will have small raised lumps on top of ONE CENT.

If it were slabbed details, it would be one of only a few that I would be proud to own. Congrats on the find buddy, if anything you have the support of all the seasoned guys on here. Sounds like almost a unanimous thumbs up on this one! :thumb:

Maybe this one should go PCGS Secure Plus service. If the sniffer doesn't reject it, it may grade cleanly - or at least put the color question to rest.

The sniffer would possibly detect doctoring done to the coin surfaces with a foreign substance, however it would have nothing to do with the color. The questioning of the color is really up to the grader that inspects it.
