First coins in England; production and forgery: https://balkancelts.wordpress.com/2015/03/01/the-first-british-coins-and-forgeries/
An informative overview, thank you. I'm particularly intrigued by the metallurgical analysis of one of the dies, showing it to be a high-tin bronze. I'm assuming this type of bronze was harder than the alloy used for coins, so as to prolong the life of the die, but I don't know of any studies that examine the issue. Of course, gold is quite soft, so any bronze recipe would have sufficed for the striking of gold coins. But what about bronze coins? Does anyone know of any metallurgical analyses of extant Greek or Roman dies?
