Almost eight years later, neither link works (for me) ... Here are two current ones:

    Euro Coins (European Commission)
    http://ec.europa.eu/economy_finance/euro/cash/coins/index_en.htm
(with sub-categories about the common sides, the national sides, the commemorative €2 coins, etc.)

    Euro Coins (European Central Bank)
    http://www.ecb.europa.eu/euro/coins/html/index.en.html

Currently (March 2014) eighteen EU member states have the euro: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain.

And there are four non-EU countries that have monetary agreements with the European Union and can thus issue euro coins: Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, Vatican.

Quick update: Lithuania will (as from 1 Jan 2015) be the next euro area member state. This page shows the chosen design (seems they wanted only one design for all denominations): https://www.lb.lt/projects_of_lithuanian_euro_coins

In terms of paper money, the "first generation" euro notes are still valid and circulate. The new ones, from the "Europa" series, are issued step by step: Last year the new €5 came, followed by the €10 this year. http://www.new-euro-banknotes.eu/
