The other day somebody (Chris I think) started a thread about my post count and that got me to thinking - what was the first post I ever made on CT ? Well one thing led to another and while searching for my first post, which is no easy task by the way, I came across a few others from before I even became a member of CT on Nov. 1, 2002 as member #112. So I thought it might kinda fun to share some memories. If I spent a few more hours searching I might be able to come up with some older threads, but quite frankly I surrender, (I've spent about 3 hrs as it is), this will have to do. CT was 9 days old when this thread was posted - Peter, and he's member #1, joined Sept. 1, 2002, just to put things in perspective. This is post #16 ob CT - https://www.cointalk.com/threads/recommenation.3/#post-16 As you might guess the topics of conversation haven't changed all that much in the past 12 years as seen by this thread when CT was only 2 weeks old - https://www.cointalk.com/threads/retoning-coins.17/#post-120 This early thread had an interesting subject that still applies today - How did you find CoinTalk ? https://www.cointalk.com/threads/how-did-you-find-coin-talk.67/ And this one contains the oldest post of mine that I can find, I had been a member for two days - https://www.cointalk.com/threads/elongated-coins.163/#post-1110 Now those threads will show you some of CoinTalk's earliest members. A Few are even still around like Mike Marotta member #33, and chrisild member #39 (one of our moderators). Anyway, just wanted to share
Doug I forget how, but I know we can find when we joined & the member #. Where is it? Ah, I found member since: Oct 31, 2006 now for the member #?
Just go to your Profile Page. Your member number will appear in the url box. Looks like this - https://www.cointalk.com/members/gdjmsp.112/

Wow, #39508 for me... I have been on coin forums since 2002, but obviously very late to the party arriving at Coin Talk... It took a while - but this one feels like "home" to me. It is nice not having draconian moderators with itchy trigger fingers - like on some forums I used to frequent...
Well, I found another post of yours, same day as your oldest, but I think mine is older than yours: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/coin-inventory-software-recommendations.71/#post-499
Nahhhh, that post would have been made within an hour, before or after, of when I made the other. I know your thinking though, you think that post is newer because of the post # that shows up. That post (yours) is #499. The one I linked to says post #1110. But the post numbers don't work that way, at least not with those old posts. For example, look at the date of the post made in the link you provided, it says 11/3/02. Mine says the same thing. But yet they are over 500 posts different in count. But back then, there weren't 500 posts made in a month on CT. Let alone 500 on the same day. We don't even have 500 day now ! So there's something screwed up with the way the software is showing post numbers with those old posts. Not sure what it is, but I guarantee you it isn't right.
Kind of cool - did not realize I have been a member for 9 years. I think my said something like 3726.
God, I should have joined instead of just lurking for the first year+. #36248 I might as well be a total newb. If I am that number, but the main page says there are only "Members: 33,385". Does that mean CT has banned 2,800+ members? or do people go dormant and not count towards member total?
It depends on the software. For some boards you have to "activate" before you can post, and inactive members are often purged because they're not adding anything to the community. That generally means that the latest users will have a user_id that is far higher than the actual user count because old user_id values are not (should not be) reused.
Wow. I'm #68. I didn't get my first PC until Sept of '01 and then I was slow finding the message boards for some reason. It's been a great 12 years.
Before Peter and the server staff made some changes a few weeks ago CT had over 43,000 members. Remember the update your email thing ? It had to do with that, and what drathbun explained. That, and the fact that I have banned a whole lot of spammers in the last few months.
