Two more pics...I can't get my camera to take a good picture of this coin.

No offense Detecto, but the thought of that coin being slabbed as an AU coin makes me sad in my pants. :( I was borderline VF35 on it due to wear on her nose.

That's fine. I still think it was a good buy.

How good are intercept shield holders?

    Intercepts are great.

I sure hope that photo is not indicative of what that coin looks like now, because it looks 10 times worst than before. Looks like Lady Liberty is a victim of domestic abuse.

They're good. Air-tites would be another option of the diameter for this coin.

It's not, for some odd reason my camera does a HORRIBLE job on photographing some coins, even after tweaking every setting.

Though I admit the acetone now makes the coin not as "rainbowy".

:( That is why I was suggesting sir to wait until you had more experience to understand how any chemical can interact with your coins. People say acetone is innocuous, but its not completely. Maybe it did you a favor, maybe not.

Rainbow appearance occurs whenever there is thin film interference, and this may be from a ultrathin layer of silver sulfide (toning), or an oil, or other chemical compound put on the surface. That it was removed by the acetone is a very strong indication that the original coloration may have been artificially produced by an oil or organic, as acetone won't remove an inorganic layer. Others may differ, but I approve of the action and the result. :)

The acitone dip really made it look worse. Sorry but I have to say it was not to be.

The acetone took a little bit away, but there is still some left.

Form the pictures it does look that way. You should only mess with a coin if it has distracting features or blemishes. From the picture of the coin before the dip, it does not look this way.

Or it can just be the pictures and im just making it all up.

Like I said. It's the pictures. My camera does not capture some coins well. No matter what type of setup I used.

Here are some new ones I took with my usb microscope. Note I altered the images so the details would stand out more.

Look at the rainbows in LIBERTY, I absolutely love that!

Notice this "strike" I wonder if this was done when it was minted, or pmd? It's on the back of the coin on the shield.

Also noticed the weak upper 0 in 50c, was this a grease filled die? The other parts in 50c are bold and stand out.

    Nope. Just a nice hit.

    Agreed.

Nice coin! I don't think the dip made much of a difference, at least to the naked eye, it may very well have removed any dirt or contaminants invisible to the eye, no harm done IMO.

    Again I say, Nice Coin!

The question remains. Is that upper part of the 0 a greased filled die?

I don't think the dip hurt it any - I believe those colors came from an older cleaning. As it is I would put that coin at XF45 and say no to getting it graded. I think it would come back details - it is still a nice coin. And yes your pictures do not help - have you tried different color backgrounds? Usually for my bust halves I use a solid white background and a solid black background - then see which emulates the coin the best. Here is an old cleaned coin - all I use is an OTT light and a white background for this one. Then photoscape the reverse and obverse together.
