However, I think you should let the coin sit out in the open some place where you will see it often for about 3-6 months to make sure that the bronze disease does not return before you apply anything to the surface. You don't want to seal the BD inside the coin. Every now and then I've had BD return--probably because I was too impatient in treating it and didn't get it all--and had to do a second round of soaks. So far--knock on wood--I've never had BD return a third time.</p><p><br /></p><p>I've never used sodium sesquicarbonate, but it's a relatively safe chemical to handle, and it may speed up the process.
