Interesting write up @Magnus Maximus ! My only T BONE coin, and a poor picture of it... Trebonianus Gallus, Antoninianus, 251-253 A.D. O: IMP C C VIB TREB GALLVS AVG, R: IVNO MARTIALIS, Juno seated left, stalks of grain in right hand, long scepter in left, RIC IV 46 , Mediolanum mint, 22 mm, 3.3 g
My Decius coins and a very debased coin probably as you said was minted during the crisis of plague. This coin I tested and found to have 30 to 40% silver content. And a better quality silver coin of Decius (Ex beast coins, Ex forum)
@Magnus Maximus , thanks for the excellent original post. I think the head on that concoction was originally from some other statue and combined with a second statue lacking a head. The scales of the two parts do not match. Trebonianus Gallus 21 mm. 3.62 grams. APOLL SALVTARI RIC page 154 "must refer directly to the plague."
TRAJAN DECIUS AR21mm., 2.2gm. Antoninianus. Obv: IMP C M Q TRAIANVS DECIVS AVG, radiate, draped, cuirassed bust right Rev: GENIVS EXERC ILLVRICIANI, Genius, polos on head, standing left, holding patera and cornucopiae; standard in right field. RIC IV Pt.III 16c
