Good morning. It is Tuesday, February 24th. Today our type will be the Liberty Seated Quarter Arrows (1853-55). This of course comprises two distinct subtypes: the 1853 Arrows & Rays quarter and the 1854-55 Arrows, No Rays quarters. While I presently lack these types and subtypes in my primary slabbed collection, I do have them in my holed type set. But I have no pictures of my "holey" examples. (Not that you probably wanted to see them anyway.) I also have an 1855 quarter in my metal detecting finds album, but no picture of that, either. (It's the only Seated quarter I ever dug. Low grade, but was an exciting find.) Anyway, in order to contribute to today's types/subtypes, I will fetch some from the "used to be mine" folder. First, here are two different Arrows & Rays examples, both PCGS VF35. I really liked the second one for its crusty, CircCam look. Might be too dark for some people's taste, but not mine! I like dark toned coins IF the contrast is there. I say no thanks to monochrome dark coins, but if it has CircCam contrast? Yes please! That second coin below was a real "black beauty", if you ask me.
