OK, folks, it’s Sunday the 25th, and now we move into the Lincoln cents. The first subtype we’ll encounter is of course the Lincoln Cent VDB (1909). As you know, this one-year type featured the initials of designer Victor David Brenner below the wheat ears on the reverse. My 1909 VDB cent is rather special because it has an interesting if not especially well known pedigree. This coin was given to me by Josh Zachman (@kazuma78) from an original roll saved by his great-grandfather Leroy Zachman in 1909. Leroy Zachman was an Ohio banker and also an avid collector. His signature appears on banknotes of the early 20th century. A number of original mint-fresh coin rolls he saved before WW1 are in the hands of Josh and his other descendants. As such, this coin has a known, unbroken provenance dating all the way back to the time it was issued in 1909. I was pleased with the grade it received at PCGS.
