Wow! We're spending some time here in Canada! A 2002 P 25-cents (KM 451). Lizzie's fiftieth year as queen, as well as Canada's 135th year of confederation. The P mint mark, I understand, means that the steel coin is plated with nickel.

    1936 Canada 50 cents. I think this one is very low mintage. 1936 CA 50 c obv.JPG 1936 CA 50 c rev.JPG

Wow! Yeah, low mintage. Bit of an understatement, Ed. It appears each of the seven years that they issued that coin were low mintage, except, relatively speaking, 1929 with 228,328. And then out of the reported mintage of 206,398 in 1921, only about 75 survived?!? Goodness.

Still in Canada with this 1918 50-cents (KM 25).

    1859 Canada one cent. There are some kind of die varieties, but I can't recall them at the moment. 1859 CA 1 c (2).jpg 1859 CA 1 c (3).jpg 1859 CA 1 c.jpg

I vaguely recall that the varieties with those 1859 cents have something to do with Vicky's head. Maybe her lips were one of the differences.

With 1859 I will jump us across the Atlantic to Frankfurt am Main with this kreuzer (KM 357).

A bad day at the mint. A 1697y shilling struck at York during the recoinage designed to eliminate hammered coins from circulation. This has the Irish and French shields transposed on the reverse, but it also tells us that the person who set the dies in the press prior to striking aligned them by positioning the French arms with the top of the head, as this is the only shield in the correct relative position for coin alignment. Everything else is wrong! Dug up nearly 20 years ago, this remains the second known as far as I am aware, the other being the Parsons, Jackson-Kent and Manville specimen.

Playing off 1863, I take us to the second French empire! A ten-centimes graced with the left-facing head of Napoleon III.

Sweet coin, coin_nut. The only one of those I have is this here 1797-A (sixth year of the terror . . . .) centime (KM 646). Oh! The wonderful history these coins could tell us, heh? If only they spoke or had a flash drive installed.

Merci beaucoups! I have only one more of this type, a year 7 or 1798 one centime in rather rough shape. Yours is a beauty! 1798 FR 1 c obv.JPG 1798 FR 1 c rev.JPG

Playing off 1798, let us shimmy on over to the Isle of Mann. George III graces the obverse and the typical symbol of the Isle of Mann on the reverse.
