France 5 Francs, 1946. I don't believe these were struck for use in France. They were struck for use in the overseas colonies.

 

Here is a 1933 5 francs, quite similar in appearance. I see mine is made of nickel and yours of aluminum. Numista makes no mention of such coins being for colonial use.

 

KM says that Muzyck's 1946 (wing and cornucopia) (with an open nine) is aluminum-bronze, and was struck for colonial use in Africa (KM# 888a.2). Coin_nut's 1933 (wing and cornucopia) is nickel, with no mention whether or not it was struck for colonial use (I assume, then, that it was struck for use in France).

I'll keep us in France but take us to 1867 - the second empire!

1911 GB half crown. I have a another one in proof/slabbed, but have posted it before on here. I sort of like a good, honest working man's coin better than a shiny virgin in plastic.

 

I also prefer coins that haven't been entombed. I buy slabbed more for "authentication" or if it is an item on my want list and is high dollar with a known history of fakes or is just hard to find in any form.
