    Years ago I worked on banana boats out of New York. We had a special strong room down in #3 hold called a "specie locker", for carrying money. We hauled millions of dollars worth of paper money for different countries in South America. I looked at some of the bank notes in different countries and saw the small print "American Banknote Printing Company". Also, note the mintmark "A" on some coins from Ethiopia and Vietnam. A for Paris. I imagine many of the poorer and more primitive countries have their coins and paper money made elsewhere.

    There are A LOT of countries the US has minted for over the years. Over 1000 coins in total. The last coin was in 2000 for Iceland and it was a bullion coin. The last coin meant for circulation was for Panama and was minted in 1983.
