[QUOTE="GDJMSP, post: 32305, member: 112"]Hey Ian - you should remember this one ;) Three times I have bid on this exact coin in separate auctions. The first two times I was outbid at the last second. The third time I was successful. And, as it turns out, I am quite glad I was previously outbid :D You see - in the previous two auctions I had bid more than double what I did in the 3rd auction. Of course, I was prepared to bid much higher in the 3rd auction as well. In fact I did. But my max bid was not even approached this time which a very pleasant surprise to say the least :D I don't usually collect copper coinage, but this is in my opinion the most beautiful design I have ever seen on a copper coin. It is a 1848 10 centime essai. What appear to be scratches are on the holder - not the coin.
