Wouldn't this note get body bagged if resubmitted? Since they have the serial number on record. Is this practice illegal? Against eB*y policy? I find it disgusting to see him buying these damaged notes for a couple hundred bucks, then restoring them and selling them for thousands. It seems almost like a form of counterfeiting since he is patching holes, repairing tears, and possibly even adding new ink to cover the worn creases.
It was expertly done - he is really good at that: I decided to open a new thread since this one has tons of "wow what a great Note" posts before the sh*t hit the fan . . . I understand it is not illegal and eBay will only help you on a one-by-one basis but will not shut the Sellers down that are doing this. So sad. It would take a lot of people for them toi institute a policy prohibiting removal of Notes from Grading holders and doctoring of Notes - but they KNOW that should be an ironclad rule.
Only way to know is to keep track of the notes that are being sold on EBay and following the paper trail....who buys, who sells, and the difference in their condition. Someone would also have to store the pics and descriptions, to back it up. But since the TPGs are being used heavily to get a grade to sell quality items, my first inclination is to somehow get the TPG's on board at photo-id'ing EVERY note they handle and checking the incoming notes against this. Otherwise, if they don't and the notes pass their inspection, they can be liable for a lot of bucks if people find out their note is doctored.
here's one that may in the next couple months come on ebay and sell for a few thousand bucks http://www.ebay.com/itm/270795657947#ht_766wt_1031 looking much nicer, I imagine, and possibly by our friend n777mwood? Be very interesting if that pans out.
I don't know about that one LOL! Might be able to clean it, but make it look XF? I've seen some guns come and go, and yea I can polish and reblue them, but if the barrel is shot out it's pretty much shot out. We call it; polishing a turd... Who's going to dump five bills into a 80 dollar WWII era Nagant? I'm not saying they wouldn't try, but it would open them up to being caught.
I know this is old, but they are still at it. Here is a listing that jimrob23 sold yesterday http://www.ebay.com/itm/111053354156?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 He lists it as Uncirculated. He claims it is nearly perfect with razor sharp edges. Here is the exact same bill when it was in a PMG 20 with TEARS notation http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/1934-500-low-serial-00000464-pmg-20-244487790 Pretty sad that Ebay allows it. This guy even has 100% feedback which probably means he refunds when he gets caught.
Sadly jimrob pocketed all of my money for a whopping 4 notes. About 8 grand total. ALL 4 notes were significantly doctored. I emailed him and he refused to refund my money. I have not bought a single Note from anyone since and gave up on currency collecting. I have the details and BEFORE and AFTER images on the Notes.
