I've explained it a dozen times, but what's once more ;)

First scan at a high resolution like 600 dpi. Save the file as a .tif. Then use your pic editing software, crop the pic in tight and then save it as a .jpg.

To capture luster and/or color the coin must be angled slightly. To do this it is easy if the coin is in a slab, just prop one end of the slab up on something about 1/4 inch thick, close the lid and scan it. For raw coins, go take the glass out of a picture you have in the house. Prop up one edge of the glass on the scanner bed, place the coin on the glass and scan it.

    Just that easy.

    here's an example -

I'll have to give that a try. Thanks GD. I'm curious though, what is the significance of saving it as a .tif before editing it?

It saves the resolution. When you save a file as a .jpg you lose detail and resolution. Doing it the way I suggested solves that problem. Don't ask me why, I just know it works.

100%. Notice I use PNG files. JPGs removes information from an image that is considered of minimal important to the allusion of the image and dithers. Other multiple steps it removed more and more image.

I think what you wrote (that CAC should allow other TPGs to be sent for CAC approval) is a great idea, however the CAC's own rules stipulates than they will only sticker PCGS or NGC coins (e.g. their management disagrees).

I think they should sticker anyslab if it meats their criteria , solid or high for the grade even if it's in a SGS slab:eek:. I mean if it's solid for the grade for NGC or PCGS , even SGS can get it right if they happen to slab a modern proof , but really their are plenty correctly graded ANACs slabs .

In their older slabs, there are a lot of them. Lately they have been pretty bad, but CAC might cause them to shape up...you never no. I'd have no problem with them sticker other companies if they met the criteria. I highly doubt anyone would ever send them an SGS slab (I hope...talk about throwing your money away).

I have no idea what a tif. or jpg. can't I just ti[p the coin 1/4 " and scan it , heck I'll have enough problems just learning to get them to post . Where can I read about this .tif. stuff .

I know...but if they opened it up to everyone, you never know. They might get one or two of them. But with ANACS, some of their older stuff definitely could earn a sticker.

It automatically provides those options when you go to save the file. Get your kid to show you.
