I also got a couple of coins whilst I was on holiday along with a load of Gibraltar coins including the last Xmas 50p the bank had ! I picked up a small set along with a 1989 Xmas 50p too Whilst over there I also bought a Rhodes centenary crown in the original case for a good price.. It's the first time I've seen one ! A Penang cent for way below what they usually go for as it was listed at a strange time.
My best pickup today: Edward VI Shilling, S2482 mintmark y, 1551 to 1553. This is actually a duplicate for me, but I could not refuse! I hope you like.
Seems like a fitting thread to make my first post on, since this is exactly what I collect now: 1952 Mauritius George VI Two Cents (Tied for Top Pop in date and grade): 1947-SA Mauritius George VI Cent (Top Pop of all KM# 21):

A couple of lovely pick ups at the market today: On the left - Henry VIII Half Groat S2343, Second coinage (1526 to 1544), Canterbury, mm difficult to be certain and may be muled. The letters either side of the shield indicate this was struck for Archbishop Warham. On the right - Charles I Groat from the Aberystwyth mint, S2892, mm Book (1638 to 1642). I hope you enjoy!
Yes 1844 is not a particularly difficult date. The scarcest are 1852 and 1853 (the latter is the one I still need!). There are quite a few overdates recorded for the groat series, but none that I can see concerning 1844. Having said that, the British collectors are less concerned with these variations unless they are pretty blatant. Here a few from my own set: 1842 - in pretty good condition. (I find it difficult to get really clean busts on these - the striking makes the head very proud and prone to early abrasion.) 1852 - because it is the scarcest I have. 1847/6 - because I know how the US collectors like overdates. In fact this year is only recorded with overdates, either over 6 or 8. It also shows how blatant they need to be to get noticed!
Those are great coins, Paddy. I am just assembling one denomination of each of Vicky. Gold isn't gonna happen.
Some more Empire Coinage: 1844 UK Victoria 1/2 Farthing - 1887 UK Victoria 1/2 Crown - 1827 UK George IV Farthing - 1753 UK George II 1/2 Penny -
I've just bought myself this piece, I already have the reduced size 1907 & George V issuses. This was the only one I lacked and I'm actually delighted it's a chopped one.
