Bingo! Congratulations gviking!!! You now get to select either the nickels or the Roy Rogers Pinback/money cards. Krispy gets the prize you do not select. Good work both of you!!! Don't forget to pm me your addresses. My middle name is Donald.
Doh! Too bad for me it wasn't McDonald, my next guess was going to be 8! Thanks for the contest and the sudden death end-game. :thumb:
Awesome! Well thank you for a fun contest, I'm really sorry I kept everyone waiting for so long. Everyone's entries were a great read. I'm going to choose prize pack 1, the coins. Congrats to krispy for runner-up status, I really liked your limerick. I'll PM with address.
No worries keeping us waiting... it was fun hanging around and making stuff up to kill the time. :hail: Congrats on your win and for your kind words about my limerick. There were many great pieces written in this contest with lots of clever ideas based on the numismatic theme.
Again, congratulations to both of you. Outstanding effort! All the participants did a great job and once again, I was impressed with the talents of our members. Here's some info on the 1953 Roy Rogers pinback: http://blogs.eciad.ca/zab/2010/05/16/king-of-the-cowboy-brand-pun-somewhat-intended/ The value of the pinback varies from $3 to this one that sold for $51 (maybe because it was in primo condition): http://www.hakes.com/item.asp?Auction=200&ItemNo=89890
I used to years ago but I sold off everything I had in the early days of ebay. My best was a mint condition Roy Rogers lunchbox and thermos that sold for almost 2 grand. I bought it at a garage for $2. After that, I began putting up my toy guns and cowboy shirts. Made a killing considering it was all sold at U.S. prices. Our dollar was close to half of the U.S. dollar at the time. The pin I picked up recently as part of an estate purchase.
That's neat. I like learning what others may be into in addition to numismatics. A few threads have been spawned on that topic in the past year or so.
My favorite Roy Rogers story: A secretary that worked for me a number of years ago invited me to her grandmother's house for dinner. It was a small quaint house, spotless with a lot of antiques around. On the wall beside the kitchen table (above the toaster) were two framed pictures side by side. One was Jesus and the other was Roy Rogers. It was the coolest thing I've seen!
Wow! That's great. I bet that really was something to happen upon. An old friend of mine had a father who was a life long collector of Gene Autry memorabilia, he turned a walk in closet into a shrine of objects related to the singing cowboy. I know well of such dedicated collectors.
Awesome contest! Very cool prizes. Yesterday I had an opportunity to see what a small Canadian nickel is 'for real', as I wasn't sure which would be unusual! I didn't know if there was a particularly large nickel, or a particularly small one. Now I know! (Particularly small!) I am enjoying learning all of these interesting facts! Plus the poetry! Regarding Roy Rogers, well, how cool is that!! I had a fascination with Roy Rogers and Trigger "things" when I first got my horse, for obvious reasons. Some interesting facts about Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, and of course Trigger are out there. Have fun with that! Congratulations to both of you poets, once again. Thanks for the entertainment!!
There's a few of them around. The guy that bought my toy cowboy guns didn't care how much they cost. When you looked at his purchases, some went into the thousands of dollars. He just wanted the best of the best. I can't recall his name now or even if he's still around but I knew if he was bidding on one of my items, the price was going to be high and he would be the winner.
