If he were like a little mouse, he certainly wouldn't be a consultant to one of the most important British auction houses, also based in New York. You learn not to laugh at people you don't know and who would teach you
I couldn't find anything about a 1921-D Zerbe in Wayne Miler's Morgan and Peace Dollar Text Book. Neither could I find anything in my copy of Van Allen and Mallis' book on Morgan and Peace dollars. And Walter Breen said nothing about them in his Encyclopedia of US Coins. I also checked Q. David Bowers Complete Encyclopedia of US Silver Dollars, and guess what? No mention of a 1921-D Zerbe. But all of these important references by top numismatic researchers talk about the 1921 and 1921-S Zerbe Dollars. Can you help us with the reference in which Mr. Miller confirms the existence?
Then it's worth whatever effort and expense it takes to get it certified by NGC or PCGS. Please submit it and post the results here.
What did he say you should do with this coin? Did he tell you that such an important variety needs to be documented in the numismatic literature? It's also interesting that he was amazed by the beauty of this coin. Wayne Miller writes that the quality of Zerbe Proofs are inferior to any other Proof Morgan dollars, are not deeply mirrored and exhibit little to no Cameo contrast. Q David Bowers writes that Zerbe Proofs shouldn't be classified as proofs, they should be specimen strikes (since they don't meet proof quality). Clearly, there isn't anything outstanding about the Zerbe Coins that would make a numismatic expert say it's the most beautiful Morgan he has seen in 40 years.
Miller said right there is no dpl 1921 superior to proof. In fact most of them were destroyed. This is not going to be a proof or even a pl or dpl but something incredible coined in denver that the same TMorgan authorizes the test and that they were then destroyed. Some denver pieces (zerbe) are in the hands of Miller and reserved American customers. ---- The proof test of denver to be the most beautiful succeeded but they were almost all destroyed because they brought the mint of mint and that they did not have to have the same Zerbe of it I authorize the destruction of the denver and sanfrancisco were accepted only the orders of chapman
Gianni, MorganDude, and all, Hold your posts arguing this . Gianni says Heritage has it , and there is several references mentioned that notable authors have contradicted or not mentioned such, so lets wait. Gianni, its your move...and to be clear I am on the authors mentioned side until the heritage cert or auction listing appears. I do not want any other discussion from anyone that does not have such direct evidence, not just opinions. Thanks. Jim
The coin for a few hours having been closed and sealed in a container can no longer be touched with the hands and I was forbidden to acquire and post new images in any site or forum. Will be viewed in London and made appropriate decisions only after. I'm sorry
Just to be clear, no one on this forum forbade you from taking clearer images of your coin and posting here. The moderator just said stop arguing and making statements that are opinions without facts.
Nice article. That ms66 with the pea sure makes it easy to grade morgans. And i can't grade a morgan even if it was written all over it. Lol. Thanks
Now i remember. He was like a fish out of water 8 year old. I nnow rescind my earlier post. Thanks oldhooster. You are this trolls catcher
