Sorry about my interruption. But from my historical readings, Andrew Jackson was at best overrated. I think the $10 bill is the place to make a change, if there is going to be one.

Some people in his day would have believed he was the equivalent of say, Reagan. There are just a lot more reasons to NOT have him on the $20 than you can add up for any other figure on our currency.

Which brings me to this thought...

Would any of our "historical" figures be remembered on our currency were every little last detail about their public and personal lives were known?

For instance Abraham Lincoln lived during the time, ie 1861 and 1862 when $10 notes were issued with his portrait - but he was not exactly as popular even in the North as he is now. Contemporary news stories of him portrayed him as a backwards bumpkin from the sticks.

Everyone is stating or using the word if. From The BEP's own website, they state that all the currency will be changed beginning in 2020 to add new security features and to add a woman to the ten.

If contemporary news reports of our leaders from any era were the standard for putting a leader on our currency, we'd probably have different variations of Liberty on our bills.

If we could put political correctness aside we could do away with all current renditions of all of the notes and coins. No more dead presidents, no political figures of any kind. Instead, for coins, go back in time and pick any of the pattern coins that never saw the light of day. Images of Freedom, Liberty, etc. Bring back an entirely new series of educational notes, something that would make you look, take note and maybe research because you did not know. I can easily imagine a series of notes, spread over say, 20 years that had artistic renditions of all of our National Parks, our superior leadership in technology ( a Space Achievement series?). So many good things could be done except to fight over who the first woman should be on our notes.

And you know, I don't believe that would be such a bad thing - variations of a figure of Liberty - a lot like France did with Marianne.
