    This is a full uncia as indicated by the one dot. The number of dots indicates the number of twelfths of an as up to the half or semis when they used the S for Semis. I believe some of the semiuncias were marked in some way but most were plain. I have not seen a 1/4 with markings and do not know if any did but the one shown in Sear is high grade and plain.

    Just like the US coinage, Roman issues varied in standards. Remember all those US silvers with arrows and rays etc.? Remember the no cents nickels? Rome was no better than we were.
