Some great pattern pieces here. I'm not into collecting them, but I have always liked to see the concept behind the finished product. It gives one a great insight into the thought processes that made the coins possible. Guy
Looking at coins from Canada, in two days I will start my new life as Canadian. First thing I will do, go the the coin shop in Montreal.
Is there any book with or price guide for pattern pieces? I'm really interested and want to start a pattern piece collection.
Although the PCGS site will give a value, patterns are really market dependent. You really have to do your homework before getting involved or you will spend too much.
Later in March, there is a big coin show in Montreal (Nuphilex Coin & Stamp)... maybe we'll see you there!! PS - Also, welcome to Canada!!
I use numismaster Krause for identification (price on those is market related like you said), but are not into it for investment purposes. I do refer to Heritage auctions for previous prices sold. But, at the end of the day, I buy the coin I like and can afford. Also, I only know Chile patterns, which are not uncommon. I have four patterns and also some trail strikes. I do like the census of NGC to see how the specimen I want to buy compare with previous graded specimens. I like the more "alternative" side to coin collecting like patterns, trails, extreme errors, counterstamps and so on. Nice to talk about it with friends.
I wish you :smile and your coin collection :smile a safe trip to Canada. BTW, today it is 0 degrees C and 92% humidity in Montreal.
Thank you, it was a very very long road. It took so much hard work to move from a developing country to first world. The money and cost of living. I have been saving and, well buying coins if you may, for the last six years to make this happen. Took almost three years to complete the paper work with the best legal firm. I am probably one of few Canadians that have never been to Canada. I had to get a private teacher for a year to make the transition in education so the kids are not left behind. Well. we will see when we get there! If I could survive Chile, I can do it there.
