Rats! Frank's article tickled my imagination just enough to have me looking at a whole new series. Last thing I need!
Funny! And the sad part is that I just looked and realized that I have to upgrade a bunch of them. More thoughts coming, perhaps an add on for sleepers?
I just read this due to winning the Clinker award. Congrats Frank! Great read! I only have one Barber half, an 1894-S that was given to me by a friend. They are too pricey for me to buy more for myself. When I was just starting out, and when I briefly collected in the mid 1990s, I thought the Barbers were just plain ugly. Now, though, I feel differently and I actually like them. (I had three Barber dimes I got somewhere in the mid 1990s, all of which were and are quite ugly...must have been what I based it on!) Now I am slowly working on a Barber Dime set, because they are small enough that I can actually afford a few of them every now and then.
Billy: I am glad that you liked it. Under the heading of: "Did you know": In the early editions of the Guide Book/Red Book the 1894 S was listed as 2 varieties. The High S (mintmark) and Low S. It was also included in early coin albums with 2 slots-- for each mint mark variety.
Frank, I did not know that. Why was that bit of info dropped? Did it turn out to not be a differing variety after all?
No, it is a legit variety. However, as fads come & go, it was just considered not that popular anymore. Thank you for the comment.
