Hello everyone, Welcome to my 44,000th Post Celebration Thread! Today I want to introduce just a few coins from my stepson's coin collection that he has amassed since early this year. It is a pretty big collection which includes Proofs, Bullion Coins, Cameo Coins, Wheat Cents, paper currency and many more. I call it the Aracena Collection because that's his last name. My collection would be the Padilla Collection Most of the coins he has acquired from eBay and a few that were given to him by his dad. I will start with these 6 Kennedy Halves. They were on top of his work desk and since he is working I couldn't get into his safe where he keeps his collection. There will be a lot more threads on the Aracena Collection in the next couple of weeks and months. He gets 1 or 2 deliveries in the mailbox almost every day. The guy is all of a sudden addicted to coins and paper currency! I recently did a thread on one of his acquired paper currency that he sent to PMG. It could be seen here - $20.00 Hawaii Note - Surprising Grade | Coin Talk
I don't know what he spent on the coins you show in this post, but if he spent much more than face value... he got ripped off. These are all low grade UNC in no-name slabs. This is nothing to be proud of... this is a teaching moment to show him what not to buy. If he is getting multiple packages a day like this... it needs to stop quickly. Unless he is getting superbly rich deals. I appreciate enthusiasm... but in this hobby, enthusiasm without knowledge and direction is wasted money. I hope that future threads of this collection show quality, because in this thread all I see is... not. I'm really sorry if I sound rude. I don't mean to. I just want to share a harsh reality.
The kid buys what he likes with no regard to outside interference. Mr.Ed is giving him free reign. In time the young fellow will learn, but he's got to make mistakes before that can be accomplished. Till then, allow the boy to enjoy himself.
Sounds like a lot of money wasted with no guidance. Unless y'all are in a different income bracket than me, I'd recommend some paternal assistance. Where is he getting the money from to spend so freely?
Don't be sorry. Believe me when I say that I have tried my best to direct him in good choices when he purchases his many coins. I've been frustrated with him many times for spending his hard-earned money on many silly listings. He even picked up some fakes from China. It is definitely a harsh reality!
If they are even UNC - I believe I see some wear on Kennedy's hair on a couple. He would be better off getting a box of halves from the bank - these are common dates and after a few boxes, I bet he would find all of these in equal or better condition for 50 cents a piece.
