Well, here is one I finished cleaning today. Soaked a couple of days in vineger and a light brushing. It appears to be Constantine The Great, Heraclea RIC VII 136. http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/bigp...IC_vII_136.jpg&ruler=./ric/constantine/i.html Take Care Bone
Bone, I think you've hit the nail on the head.Even though Constantine is usually depicted as a short bearded square jawed guy,a lot of his coins show a much different image, more like his wimpy looking sons. The clincher is the inscription,CONSTAN TINVS MAX AVG,which only Dad used. The only thing you might want to look at is the mintmark. You might be right that it's Heraclia SMHA,but make sure it's not Antioch SMAN,Thessalonica SMTSA or Nicodemia SMNA. The GLORIA EXCERCITVS reverse was produced in all four mints. Keep up the project!
You can tell better with coin in hand,by changing the light and using magnification. Here is a list of all of his coins with this design and inscription.Let us know please. http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/findstr.cgi oops..I guess that doesn't work so just cut and paste this string into the Partial inscription search engine. http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/findstr.cgi I've narrowed it down to the 136 or 188, D. It's been corroded pretty badly. http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/bigp..._vII_188,D.jpg&ruler=./ric/constantine/i.html Thanks for looking Ben
