For me 2009 was an important year in Numismatics. It was my first full year and it holds a good number of firsts, milestones, and whatnot. Here are my 2009 Firsts, I think this should be all of them:

First letter in a coin publication (The Numismatist)

First Proof Set (the 2009 silver set, at that)

First Coin Show, which included first meeting of other collectors and the first time seeing classic, issued-for-circulation gold (CoinFest, October)

First coin not from this millenium (an ancient Greek coin from roughly 350 BC)

First time purchasing paper money (before that I had only pulled items out of circulation)

First time selling a coin (I sold the excess from a bank wrapped roll of 2008 D dimes)

First time mailing a coin internationally (a trade I made to Australia)

First coin from the 1600s in my collection (a Polish 1623 3 polker that I got at CoinFest)

First completion of a classic (read: Silver) year set (1944)

First NON-blurry coin photograph

First graded coin (an SEGS 2007 Kennedy half which I was given as a gift)

First coin from the Carson City mint (an 1876-CC half dollar which is damaged but still holds a high place in my collection)

First Barber half in my collection (1894)

First classic Commerative in my collection (a Columbian Exposition half)

I THINK that about covers all my 2009 firsts. I wonder what firsts 2010 will have? I would like to be able to say "First Gold coin in my collection" but gold is way, way too expensive for me.

With 2009 being my first full year collecting coins and currency, it stands to reason that it will have the most firsts in my entire collecting career, which is really just starting out...While none of that stuff may seem like a big deal to anyone but me, each of those was indeed a big deal to me and is creating memories I will have forever...
