I saw the mule Sacagewea dollar with the president dollar rev. Pretty cool. I would think quality control is much better today than it was in 1959. Do any of you think that there is a 1959 wheat rev. out there somewhere? And I'm kinda curious does anyone ever even have the slightest problem with the wheat back ending in 1958 instead of 59 or does it only bother those of us with O C D issues. Be honest now. I know that 59 was a commemorative year for Lincoln but c'mon the world would be a much better place if they would have just started the memorial back in 1960.

I agree , it would sound practical but I'm sure there was reason ( ? ) . Anyone know ?

Well from what I understand the reason is 1959 was a commemorative year for Lincoln I don't remember exactly what it was commemmorating ?

Sorry to waste your time by trying to provide some information to help answer your question. I guess I should have known you were already aware even though there is nothing in your post. Maybe other members might enjoy the story behind that coin

BTW: Although many believe the coin in the link is counterfeit (including me), it still hasn't been completely accepted by the hobby

I really just want to see how many of you believe or feel that there may might be any out there as I said I saw the Sacagewea dollar with the president dollar rev. Pretty cool . And stated that the quality control has to be better today than back in 1959

yea the mints technology of all parts of the minting process gets better and better every year. i would bet human error is the cause of the Sacagawea/Presidential Reverse Dollar mule.

I have learned a lot by not saying anything. Ears open and mouth shut. I find no matter what is said, some one will say it is wrong.

As Cronkite used to say, "That's the way it is."

I have examined one purported 1959 plain wheat cent and one purported 1959-D wheat cent and did not think that either one was genuine.

I was always under the impression that it was changed in 1959 because it had been fifty years since the IHC was retired, and it was time for a small change. (No pun intended.)

The 1959 Memorial was introduced on the 150th anniversary of A Lincoln's birth....

Easy to fake. Make transfer dies from a wheat reverse cent and a 1959 obverse cent, purchase a type II blank and strike your coin. easy if you have the skill set, that is...

When I was young, I wondered why politicians were ruining U.S. coin designs. All designs circulated at the time...Wheaties vs. Memorial, Buffalo vs. Jefferson, Mercury vs. Roosevelt, SLQ vs. Washington, Walkers vs. Franklin...there was just no comparison. I realized from a very early age that government was heading in the wrong direction.
