To be perfectly honest, I included Oscar Mayer in the poll because I always liked the jingle. The same goes for the boloney. My boloney has a first name. It's O-S-C-A-R. My boloney has a second name. It's M-A-Y-E-R. I love to eat it every day, and if you ask me why, I'll say, cause Oscar Mayer has a way with b-o-l-o-g-n-a. How's that! Chris
Why do people put ketchup on their eggs? Because such people like the taste of tomato ketchup with eggs. Each to one’s own taste and hence why question some person’s taste if it is not immoral or illegal. In ‘Gulliver’s travels’, the little people of the nations of Lilliput and Blefescu were at loggerheads regarding the manner in which to eat half-boiled eggs. Lilliputians insisted that the half-boiled eggs should be cracked open from the narrow side (pointed end) of the oval egg, whereas, the Blefuscans objected to this and were appalled at the table manners of the Lilliputians, because they were of the opinion that the half-boiled egg should be cracked at the wider round end of the egg. This matter was blown out of proportion and these two nations had become mortal enemies. The question asked reflects a similar attitude to that exhibited by Lilliputians and Blefuscans. (I got this response from the internet.. Chris I'm not trying to get smart with you!)
Nah! I think it's funny. Like I said before, I never thought that this thread would attract as much discussion about hot dogs as it did. Chris
Okay, I'll ask here: what is it about the idea of eating ketchup on a hot dog? Where I grew up (MD and VA) it was perfectly common. At least we can all agree that eating ketchup on ground beef (hamburgers) is completely natural, but eating ketchup on sliced beef (steak or roast beef) is an abomination. Right?
Stewarts in WV are the BEST hot dogs there are, period. Plus, over the years, they've received a small fortune from me.
Same as eating corn on the cob. Here in our household it's always around the cob. We weren't allowed to associate with families who ate it typewriter style.
I was born in the MD suburbs of DC and had a townhouse in Falls Church. I don't remember any protocol about using ketchup on hot dogs. Maybe that was because I preferred steamed blue crabs, crabcakes and softshell crab sandwiches from places like Crisfield's on the Eastern Shore. For the record, I prefer my burgers with mustard and a thick slab of Vidalia onion. Chris
Costco hot dogs are the best and catsup container is filledl over 3 times more often than mustard. And the price plus drink is unbeatable. IMO, Jim
In my little SE KY hometown, hotdogs were habitually served with chili sauce topped with finely chopped sweet coleslaw. People moving away were always surprised when they ordered a hotdog and got this naked tube steak on a bun...naked!!!
Do you remember in the movie, "Big", where Tom Hanks was eating the little corn appetizer at the party? Chris
