I picked up two of these today from 2 different sources. I do like to collect some of the bar currency from different place. Anyone else have any of these?
I have quite a few. In fact, I have maybe 75% of the pre-round coin types of Thai coins. I am putting them together for my wife and children, who are Thai and half Thai respectively. These were mainly made from good silver, but be very careful of fakes. Maybe 70% on the market are fakes, like most early Thai coins unfortunately. Ron Crystal's book has greatly increased demand and valuations of all early Thai. I should have started collecting them 20 years earlier. I only have rare esoteric things like Lampang mint pieces (wife from Lampang), and the great rarities left to get, if I ever get them.
That's very cool. I do the same with Chinese coins for my daughter. These are the first I have ever seen of these.
Here is a link to some info i found while researching a pig-mouth Tok for a friend. http://www.siamese-heritage.org/jsspdf/1931/JSS_029_1b_Kneedler_CoinsOfNorthSiam.pdf
You know the coin you pictures is a tok nan, not a pig mouth right? Quite a large hole on it, most have a tiny hole. In higher grades they are completely gold/brass washed on the obverse.
